Yangon is one of my favorite destinations in Asean countries, been to Yangon perhaps 6 times in 5 years. This trip I stayed at the Kandawgyi Palace Hotels at the Kandawgyi Lakes as the other hotels in town, Traders and Park Royal were fully booked. We were visiting the the Myanmar Furniture and Lifestyle Exhibition in Yangon where they showcased furniture products mostly made from Teak and Rosewood.

Our host were Mr Barber and Mr Bakar who accompanied us to meetings and factory visit also showed us where to get the best local Muslim food. As usual, the lack of night life in the city compelled everybody to just visiting the foot-massage centre where for RM 22 you can get 1 and half hour massage as aoposed to Kuala Lumpur rate of RM 45 for 35 minutes foot massage.

The Beriani in Yangon was still cheap and the fried mutton were still the best..

Bangkok trip

Bangkok, my favorite destination amongst Asian cities for its shopping and food offering and the vibrant nightlife. I was there for business as usual, meeting Government people including the deputy PM and people from the private sector. The meeting and subsequent visit to manufacturers took three days of the visit while the rest were spent on Bangkok river tour and visit to some famous tourist destinations.

As we stay at Panthunwan Pricess Hotel which was next door to MBK shopping complex, all shopping and food issues was settled, Muslim food was available at level 5 of MBK at the International Food Court, be prepared to spend about RM 15 per meal and drink.

My second river crossings in Bangkok was more exciting this time as other friends were also there to take some photos, not like the last trip when I have to ask other tourist to take photo of me, but this tourist were very helpful..they would ask back, would you prefer portrait or landscape, zoom of normal..kind people everywhere!

The trip by boat was cheaper when you pay about RM1.30 per trip just like the Mini-Bus fare in Kuala Lumpur and take another boat to cross the river to visit the Wat. After the visit we went to Pat Phong, the famous area in Bangkok for the night sexy shows there, we went to the night market to buy some t-shirts and belts.

Cheers Bangkok!!

KRABI THAILAND DECEMBER 2010

My company organized a business trip to Hatyai and Krabi Thailand to look at opportunities in rubberwood timber manufacturing and production. We traveled by Toyota Commuter to Krabi from Hatyai and took us the whole day including scheduled stoppages. The journey passed by rubber plantations, small towns and nothing to shout about until we were near Krabi and saw the Andaman sea.

Krabi is just a small town by the sea with 40-50% Muslim population, that takes care of the Halal Food issue. In December most hotels were fully booked and charged the high season rate. We were able to get Aonang Sunset Hotel quite near the beach for THB 2,400 including breakfast. Cheaper hotels are available but they are kilometers away from the beach and town.

Beach at Aonang are full of bikini-clad young and old tourist mostly from countries hit by adverse winter season. The scenery was very picturesque and get your camera at sunset for nice photography spree.

In the town itself, shops selling souvenirs are aplenty but they called the price high and expect you to bargain, which to me is a waste of time...restaurants are plenty too, from Indian food to European dishes and Muslim food not a problem.

Renting a motorbike is a must especially if your hotels are far from the twon and beach. Big heavy motorbike were rented at THB 400 for 24 hours wile the smaller scouters were give away at THB 200 for 24 hours.

I intend to come back during low season perhaps in March, 2011.

I went to Medan north Sumatera on a business trip in the fasting month of September 2010. I made the trip via Mas airline departing at 0900 hrs and arriving at 0900 hrs Indonesian time. This time I stayed at the Swiss Grand Hotel and it was a cosy and nice accommodation adjacent to shopping mall. That evening I went to Rumah Makan Garuda which served the nasi padang, loved the fried chicken, sambal lada hijau and urat or tunjang.

Met some people at the Consulate General office, freight forwarders and a few presiden/director of prominent companies there. Visited the Belawan port to see the export and import activities there and finally did some shopping at pasar ikan for muslim clothing especially for would be pilgrimage.

Shopping in Medan was more expensive..better in Bandung...

Makan Ketam (Kepiting) di Surabaya

Hotel Somerset
Bilik yang luas
Kepiting

Paling enak...kapan datang lagi!!
